The capital city of Penang Island – Georgetown, named after King George of England. Some of the famous and interesting tourist attractions are the ruins of Fort Cornwallis built by the British East India Company in 1808, the Khoo Kongsi the famous clan house which is a magnificent example of old Chinese architecture with its intricate wood carvings, the Wat Chayamangkalaram the third largest reclining Buddha statue in the world (33 meters) and the famous 30 hectares Botanical gardens with its lush tropical greenery and the care free monkeys.
